Support

Thank you to all my family and friends who have been with me through school and all the craziness that came with it. With your continued support my interviews have been going great. I continue to network and network and meet new people in the industry and it has helped me get in many doors of companies I only dreamed of getting to talk to. I wasn’t qualified for all of them but it was great to just speak with some of these very talented companies. Thank you again and again. Now the waiting game begins.

Chromebook

The future is here, well around June 15th anyways.

Re-blogged from Urbergizmo

We live blogged the Google I/O keynote on Wednesday where major announcements were made, including the launch of the Google  Chromebook computers manufactured by Samsung and Acer that will be available June 15 in the US for $449 (Samsung WiFi version), $499 (Samsung WiFi+3G version) and $349 (Acer).

“The future is on the web”…”in a browser”, Google says, so the search giant is bringing its dream to the market in the form of the Chromebook.

For those who did not follow the Google computer story, since the beta model codenamed CR-48 launched last year, here is the deal: the Chromebook runs the Chrome OS and users have access to data and applications only from the web via the Chrome Browser. Google claims that this new “computing model” enables a higher level of security, since users do not have to install anti-viruses, instead relying on web services and Google “multi-layers” security including sandboxing, data encryption, and verified boot, features that were in the CR-48, go to this page and this page to get a detailed overview.

Graduation: Prep

I wanted to change the way people grabbed my business cards at my grad show, so when visitors reached for a card off my table they were in for a little surprise. Thanks to the guys and gals at Evil Mad Science I was able to put together this interactive LED panel that uses sensors to detect changes in light value.

Photos and a video:

Legit Print: The Birth of the Logo

Legit Print is an online printing resource company that started in the Summer 2009 with two employees: my brother and myself. With a business background and knowledge of Graphic Design we were able to launch a modest online printing company that has done significantly well. LegitPrint.com The website is currently undergoing redevelopment (by me)

It’s been an interesting process, I get a lot of questions about the logo. If you were trying to guess what the drops in the logo were and you guessed drops of ink, you would be correct.

Project: This Was Expensive pt.2

This was a prototype made by Nancy Chui and Kevin Kwok. The website was created with the Raphael js library. The screen is an Acer T230H running off a Windows 7 laptop with multi touch built it intuitively. The project was showcased at a graduation show located at the Art Center College of Design.

We still have some bugs to fix and we find it works best on Google Chrome, no I am not just saying that (har har har).

Google: Cr-48 Chrome Notebook

Unfortunately despite my early application to get one of these awesome notebooks, I did not end up actually receiving one. However, my friend Alex was lucky enough to get his hands on… 2! (now someone tell me how that is fair). No he did not give me but he let me examine it. It’s amazingly fast and I know Google was saying the shell of the laptop is temporary but I absolutely love it. It has a soft matte coating and its ENTIRELY black.

If you’re listening Google, you can still send me one, you have my info :)

New Portfolio

Graduation is creeping up in about a week. It’s hard to believe I’ve called this place home for so long (Art Center College of Design) and now I finally have reached the finish line. Time to find a job, make a living and lets not forget – repaying those friendly lenders for all my loans.

A fresh new look on life requires a fresh new portfolio, hopefully the new website will help engage the viewer and really get close and personal with my work. NO really, literally get close with my work, I made sure my site had full bled images to fill up each page, its pretty different than what I had been doing before. There are always tons of people who will tell you what to do or how you should do things, many told me to step away from the little hints of Star Wars, but I did it anyways. This website is mines, this portfolio is mines and whatever is on it is a part of me. So I’m going to do just that, do me (yes that is me on the front page). www.kevinkwok.com

A tip: you can navigate the site in 2 ways. One – clicking the thumbnails at the bottom of each project. Two – clicking the left and right arrows that also appear on each project.

Another thing about graduation…Google rep is coming. This is one of the biggest moments for me, this blog, and the whole kevinforgoogle campaign this is my first shot at something I have been longing for. Cross your fingers people – here we go.
